Happy farming couple

Many sheep and beef farmers are leaving a lot of money and opportunity on the table by seeing themselves as “just farmers”, “self-employed,” and not as multi-million dollar business owners. Being self-employed may technically be the case but the two types of thinking are poles apart! This disparity in perception causes ongoing variable results and lack of business strength. Everyone has the choice as to how they operate of course but why does this disparity exist?

Partly it is to do with the long term culture in our industry but mainly it is caused by lack of awareness and inaccurate self-perceptions. There is management, task and leadership training available but where can farmers systematically learn to grow as great business owners, AS THEY ARE FARMING? Let me answer that question shortly.

Much of the time these multi-million dollar business are churning out just enough profit for the owners to exist on (sometimes less). Unfortunately, as a result many farmers are giving up the ability to choose and create their own lives and futures. As far as awareness goes, owning a business and generating great profits from it requires a different mindset than being self-employed. Being self-employed is fine by the way (and the world needs self-employed people) but not if you are operating a sheep and beef farm business and expecting to generate profit EVERY year. It starts with the thinking environment and the rest flows from that. See Robert Kiyosaki’s work for the differences between true self-employed thinkers and true business owner thinkers. In the meantime, here are a few generalised differences:

Differences between SETs and BOTs

You choose if you fit into these or not but it is clear that there are vast differences in thinking. To make your multi-million dollar farm business absolutely rock, one of these is obviously more helpful than the other.

So, where can farmers systematically learn to grow as great business owners, as they are farming? The GrowFARM® System!

GrowFARM® clients recently spent two incredible days together in Wellington for the 2016 GrowFARM® National Mastermind Meeting. This annual conference brings together clients from around the country to learn and grow as business owners in a vibrant culture of creating profit EVERY year, being the best they can be and having fun! The 2016 theme of Being the Business Owner reinforced the mindset required to deliver the results they really want from their lives and businesses, as well as examining the leverage and resolve needed to get it done.

From client feedback, the extremely positive masterminding between farming couples and individuals has been offered as the major highlight. Many said there was none of the current negativity so prevalent in our industry and they don’t know of any other similar culture for farmers. Other specifics were highlighted, such as confidence, focused planning, inspiration, positive examples, learning their next step as business owners, involvement of the farming women as a vital part of the business team and a focus on the circle of influence.

Along with regular business coaching, farm visits, 24/7 access to the cloud based ProfitLIVE®, and Regional Mastermind Meetings, the National Mastermind Meeting rounds out a very results driven and profit focused system.

GrowFARM® clients have discovered that anyone can generate profit every year from their sheep and beef farm business, if they just start with what they have and if they are prepared to follow the system to do what it takes, as business owners.

So, the way forward for sheep and beef farmers exists. The question is, will you take it?

  • It's the positivity that differentiates Mastermind meetings from other farmer get togethers. Everyone obviously feels strong and in control, however far along the system they have travelled. And the involvement of the women members, who bring their own set of useful and used skills to the process.
